Nigerian Army Rescues 10 Kidnapped Women in Kaduna
The Nigerian Army says troops of Operation Peace Shield have rescued 10 women kidnapped in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State during a special operation carried out in the early hours of Friday.
A reliable source at Army Headquarters disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
According to the source, the victims were abducted from their farms at Unguwan Nungu on November 29, prompting Sector 5 troops to launch a sustained search-and-rescue operation.
The source said the troops intercepted the kidnappers at about 6:40 a.m. on Friday as the criminals attempted to collect ransom from relatives of the abducted women. He added that the soldiers overpowered the kidnappers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives.
“The troops recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 9mm ammunition and ₦1.6 million, believed to be part of the ransom money,” the source stated.
The rescued women have been debriefed and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
He added that the Nigerian Army remains committed to restoring peace and security across the country. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to maintain momentum against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements. (NAN)
