7 feared dead in Sabon Lugbe Building Collapse – FEMD

7 persons have been confirmed dead in the collapsed building in Sabon lugbe.

The statement issued by the FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Clarifies that the said structure located at Gidash Estate was one of the buildings previously demolished by the Department of Development Control, that scavengers invaded to extract iron rods and other building materials which made the building to collapse on them.

Meanwhile, FEMD has called off its search and rescue ,after the excavation of site revealed that there were no persons trapped in the rubble.

The Acting Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed dismissed as untrue media reports that 40 persons were trapped in the rubble of Sabon Lugbe building Collapse.

The FEMD boss has appealed to scavengers to shun demolition sites and allow the FCTA carryout the removal of structures to avert re- occurrence of such incident .

Clarifying further, the Director of Development Control Department, Mukhtar Galadima confirmed that the collapsed structure was an uncompleted building demolished on Thursday, that witnessed influx of Scavengers attempting to cart away iron rods.
