MultiChoice Slashes DStv Decoder Price by 50% in New Subscriber Push

In a major move to attract more subscribers and cushion the effects of economic hardship, MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50% price slash on its DStv decoder, bringing the cost down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The offer is part of a new promotional campaign tagged “We Got You”, which the company says is designed to make its content more accessible to a wider range of Nigerian households.

In addition to the price cut, MultiChoice is introducing a limited time promotion that will run from June 16 to July 31, 2025. During this period, customers who renew their DStv subscription by paying in full for their current package will automatically receive a free upgrade to the next higher package.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” said John Ugbe, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria. “The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

Ugbe added that the platform is being repositioned as a source of daily value across multiple genres from drama and movies to kids’ programming and news, urging subscribers to explore beyond just sports content.

The move comes amid reports that the company lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025, largely due to Nigeria’s economic challenges and multiple price increases. MultiChoice raised subscription rates on both DStv and GOtv platforms three times over the past year, sparking customer dissatisfaction.

The new campaign appears aimed at reversing the downward trend and reinforcing DStv’s appeal in a competitive market environment.
