Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Dies at 90
By Iyojo Ameh
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is dead. He passed away in the early hours of Monday at the age of 90.
A family source confirmed the development, which comes amid ongoing celebrations marking both his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his ascension to the revered Olubadan throne.
Oba Olakulehin became the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, following the death of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
His reign, though brief, was deeply symbolic, lasting exactly one year. Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin rose through the ranks of the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system from the Balogun line of succession. He was officially installed as Olubadan by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
The late monarch is remembered for his wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
