Tragedy Strikes: UNIMED Registrar Found Dead in Suspected Targeted Killing

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, the 41-year-old Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State. Adeniran, who had been in office for just six months, was found dead early Thursday at his residence in Akure, the state capital—a development that has left the university community and residents in deep shock and mourning.

Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, revealed that the incident is being treated as a targeted killing. While addressing journalists, Ayanlade shared preliminary details, stating that two unidentified individuals were seen emerging from nearby bushes and allegedly forced an unknown substance into another person’s mouth, in what is believed to be a related case. However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the Registrar’s death.

“We are exploring all credible leads to get to the root of this crime,” Ayanlade stated. “Our priority is to identify and apprehend the culprits behind this heinous act. We urge members of the public to come forward with any information, assuring them of full confidentiality.”

In a statement, the University of Medical Sciences expressed profound grief over Adeniran’s death. The institution’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described the Registrar’s passing as a monumental loss. He noted that Adeniran was seen at work as recently as Monday, July 14, 2025, making the tragic news all the more shocking for the academic community.

The incident has cast a shadow over the institution and raised concerns about security within the state’s academic environment.
