Tinubu Appoints Obih, Akinfeleye to University Governing Councils, Names Key Officials for Federal University of Health Sciences, Tsafe

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Obih’s appointment comes as a replacement following the death of a council member.

The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a distinguished communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Prof. Akinfeleye, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, also chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography, as well as Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.

Previously serving on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, Akinfeleye replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who was recently appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

In a related development, President Tinubu has appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

Other principal officers appointed include Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Prof. Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, is currently Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano, and Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He also serves on the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

He earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before securing a European Economic Commission scholarship for postgraduate studies in the UK, where he became a member and later a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Prof. Yakasai also obtained a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, UK, and went on to earn fellowships from both the International College of Surgeons (FICS, USA) and the American College of Surgeons.

His career includes serving as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board in Kano State.
