By David Odama
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has unveiled a major electrification project aimed at powering 10,000 homes across the state through Solar Home Systems.
The initiative, which began in Calabar South, Akpabuyo, Abi, and Ogoja Local Government Areas, is already making significant progress, with installations ongoing in various communities.
Chairmen of the benefiting LGAs hailed Governor Otu for what they described as deliberate and people-focused leadership, commending his commitment to placing the welfare of Cross River residents at the center of governance.
The Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency (CRSEA), Mr. Francis Ekpo, expressed satisfaction with the pace of installations and the professionalism of the distribution team. He assured that every LGA in the state would benefit from the project, noting that subsequent phases would extend coverage until all areas are reached.
Residents in the pilot LGAs have welcomed the development with enthusiasm, describing it as a transformative intervention. They praised the governor for addressing basic needs like electricity and pledged their continued support for his administration beyond 2027.
The project is a partnership between the Cross River State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abuja, with ASolar handling installations. It is expected to enhance access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy while stimulating economic activities, education, and the general quality of life for rural households.
Truly, it is the season of sweetness.
