Ahead of PDP Convention: Northern Leaders Endorse Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as Consensus Candidate for National Chairmanship

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Northern region have endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman ahead of the party’s elective convention slated for Ibadan next month.

Addressing journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting of Northern PDP leaders, the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, announced that the unanimous adoption of Turaki was a strategic move aimed at repositioning the party and strengthening its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Fintiri explained that ten party positions were zoned to the North, adding that Turaki’s selection was informed by his inclusive leadership style, political maturity, and unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP.

The Governor, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Elective Convention Committee, however clarified that the contest remains open to all aspirants, assuring that the party will guarantee a level playing field for everyone interested in contesting.

He further stated that the PDP has established strong mechanisms to resolve internal disagreements, emphasizing that the party will approach the forthcoming convention as a united, formidable force determined to restore hope and confidence among Nigerians.
