3rd African Weaving Festival Holds in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Department of Culture and African Weaving Festival has finalized arrangements for the third edition of the African Weaving Festival (AWeF 2025).

This year’s event, themed “African Indigenous Fabrics: A Tool for Culture Diplomacy and Unity,” is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, by 3 p.

m. prompt.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Executive Director, S&M, FCT Department of Culture and African Weaving Festival, Mr. Sam Agbi, said the three-day event will celebrate Africa’s rich textile heritage and underscore the importance of indigenous fabrics in fostering cultural identity, creativity, and continental unity.

Mr. Agbi explained that beyond its cultural value, AWeF 2025 aims to contribute to tourism development by attracting visitors, exhibitors, and cultural enthusiasts from across Africa and the diaspora.

He noted that the festival will serve as a dynamic platform for showcasing Nigeria’s cultural tourism potential, promoting heritage preservation, craft-based entrepreneurship, and cross-border cultural exchange.

According to him, the active participation of stakeholders will further enhance Nigerian arts, culture, and tourism as strategic tools for national development and international cooperation.

While appealing for the cooperation and support of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) towards the success of the three-day event, Mr. Agbi reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Department of Culture and African Weaving Festival to implementing programmes that will rejuvenate the nation’s cultural sector, promote peace and unity, and advance national economic growth.
