The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports alleging the abduction of a brigade commander during an ambush in Borno State, clarifying that the senior officer successfully guided his troops back to base after the incident.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.

-Col. Appolonia Anele, troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade were said to be returning from a routine patrol around Wajiroko in Damboa Local Government Area when they came under heavy fire from insurgents on the outskirts of the Sambisa Forest.

The patrol unit, led by Brig.-Gen. M. Uba and supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), reportedly fought off the attackers with superior firepower, compelling the insurgents to withdraw.

The Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF personnel were killed in the confrontation, describing them as courageous individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. It also extended condolences to their families and colleagues.

The statement further rebutted viral reports suggesting that the brigade commander had been captured, stressing that the claim was untrue and advising the public to disregard it.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the troops for their bravery and steadfastness while operating in one of the country’s most difficult conflict environments.
