Eggon Carnival Marred by Tragedy: Two Lives Lost, Several Injured as Trucks Plough into Crowd

A tragic incident has brought the Eggon carnival in Nassarawa Eggon to an abrupt end, claiming the lives of two persons and leaving several others injured, prompting the cancellation of the 2025 festivities.

The accident occurred when three trucks reportedly lost control and rammed into the carnival procession around the Eggon Community Secondary School area.

Among those who lost their lives were a young woman identified as Miss Blessing from Nassarawa Eggon Zone and an elderly man. Several victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical care. They include Mr. Martins Akwashiki and a resident of Abuja who suffered a fractured leg. The Chairman of the Carnival Planning Committee, Barrister Alaku Dennis, was also injured in the incident.
Reacting to the development, the leadership of Ame Wo Ba Eggon (AWBE) expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate event and confirmed the cancellation of the carnival. In a statement, the group noted that such accidents are deeply painful and devastating, adding that their thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and friends.
