NAFDAC issues guide on spotting fake “Kiss” condoms in circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the widespread circulation of counterfeit Kiss condoms in various parts of the country.
The warning followed complaints received from DKT International Nigeria, the company responsible for marketing the brand, after fake products were uncovered in several major markets and urban centres.

NAFDAC disclosed that the counterfeit Kiss condoms have been found in locations including Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair Market, Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu.
The agency cautioned that the use of fake condoms poses significant health dangers, as such products may fail to provide adequate protection against sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.
According to NAFDAC, there are noticeable differences between authentic Kiss condoms and the counterfeit versions. Genuine packs typically carry clear usage instructions, complete manufacturer information and verified addresses.
In contrast, fake products are often characterised by darker packaging, missing or incorrect details, wrong addresses and poor-quality printing. Differences are also evident in the condoms themselves, with counterfeit ones usually appearing smaller, thinner and having less lubrication compared to the approved products.
NAFDAC advised Nigerians to remain vigilant, thoroughly examine product labels before purchase and promptly report any suspicious items to the nearest NAFDAC office nationwide.
The agency further assured the public that it is intensifying efforts to track down and remove the fake condoms from the market, while collaborating with security agencies to identify and prosecute those behind their distribution.
