Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday evening, January 10, 2026, defeated the Desert Foxes of Algeria to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently taking place in Morocco.

The three-time African champions began the quarter-final encounter on a strong note, asserting dominance immediately after the referee’s opening whistle.
Playing before a lively crowd at the 45,000-capacity Grand Stade de Marrakech, the Super Eagles dictated the pace of the heavyweight clash and created several scoring opportunities in the opening half.
Despite their dominance, the first 45 minutes ended goalless, with Algeria holding on under sustained Nigerian pressure.
Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart. Star striker Victor Osimhen rose highest in the box to head home a well-delivered cross from the left flank by Bruno Onyemaechi, giving the Super Eagles a deserved lead.
Ten minutes later, the advantage was doubled when Osimhen turned provider, setting up Akor Adams. The forward calmly rounded Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane before slotting the ball into an empty net to seal the victory.
With the win, Nigeria advance to the semi-finals, where they will face tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday night, January 14, 2026.
