Woman Dies After Falling Ill During Visit to Boyfriend’s Residence
A woman identified as Esther has reportedly died after falling ill while visiting her boyfriend in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A resident of the area, identified as Dauda, said Esther left her home that afternoon after informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei.
According to Dauda, the woman’s boyfriend later contacted Esther’s elder brother that same night to inform him of her death. The caller reportedly said Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she allegedly began vomiting.
Dauda explained that the boyfriend claimed he rushed Esther to Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention, but she died while receiving treatment.
He further alleged that since the incident, the boyfriend’s phone has been switched off, along with Esther’s phone. He also noted that the man did not provide his name or residential address.
Dauda said, “Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, telling her sister she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei, but she never returned. Later that night, her brother received an anonymous call from a man who said he was her boyfriend.
“He explained that Esther had visited him, that he bought food for her, and that after eating, she started vomiting. He said he took her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.
“Since then, the boyfriend’s phone has been switched off, as well as Esther’s phone. He also did not disclose his identity or address.”
When contacted on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police were aware of the incident and that an investigation was ongoing.
“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
