The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), FCT Province 6, Gwagwalada, Abuja, has commissioned a solar-powered borehole to address water needs in the area.
The project was inaugurated in Gwagwalada, Abuja, by the Wife of the Continental Overseer, Continent 2, RCCG Abuja, Pastor Mrs Esther Odeyemi.

She described the initiative as a reflection of the church’s “Year of Brand New Beginning,” noting that the borehole would significantly serve both church members and residents of Redemption Avenue Community in Gwagwalada.
Pastor Mrs Odeyemi emphasized that water is life and stressed that society would be better off if greater priority is given to projects that ease the suffering of the less privileged. She urged religious organizations to consistently focus on initiatives that help reduce challenges associated with the provision of basic amenities in their host communities.
Speaking at the event, the Pastor in charge of RCCG FCT Province 6, Gwagwalada, Pastor Adekunle Samson Lawal, explained that the church embarked on the borehole project to address the persistent shortage of water supply in Gwagwalada, particularly within the Redemption Avenue Community.
Pastor Lawal further disclosed plans by the church to establish a water factory using the borehole, with the aim of producing sachet and bottled water to serve Gwagwalada, the Federal Capital Territory, and neighbouring states. He noted that the project was sponsored by the Women in Ministry of RCCG Headquarters, led by Pastor Mrs Esther Odeyemi.
According to him, water scarcity remains a major challenge in Gwagwalada, and the borehole will ease the burden on residents who often move from place to place in search of water. He added that the facility would provide free water to the Redemption Avenue Community, while also benefiting people from surrounding areas due to its reliable supply.
Also speaking, the Assistant Pastor of the church, Pastor Olawale Oluyombo, advised residents of the Redemption Avenue Community to make proper use of the borehole and guard against vandalism to ensure its sustainability. He expressed satisfaction with the project, describing it as a valuable complement to government efforts in improving water supply.
Earlier, the Assistant Pastor in charge of Administration, Pastor Olabode Sunday Olushola, revealed that the church has plans to embark on additional developmental projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of both church members and the wider community. He called on well-meaning Nigerians and religious bodies to remain committed to the aspirations of the people in order to promote societal development.
The commissioning ceremony featured prayers of thanksgiving and the dedication of the borehole project to the glory of God and the upliftment of humanity.
