US civil rights icon Jesse Jackson has passed away at the age of 84.
Jackson, who later sought the US presidency, died peacefully on Tuesday morning with members of his family by his side, according to a statement released by them.
The family confirmed that the 84-year-old “died peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his family.”
The statement added: “His steadfast dedication to justice, equality, and human rights helped ignite a global movement for freedom and dignity.
