La_Shipson Pharmaceutical Ltd has announced plans for a proposed $52.1 billion integrated healthcare and infrastructure investment, saying it is currently engaging the Federal Government through the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) and other stakeholders to advance the initiative.

According to the company, the project aims to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system while expanding local pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical education, healthcare financing and housing infrastructure.

The proposed investment, championed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Moses Godia Shipi, includes the establishment of a World Health Organization Good Manufacturing Practice (WHO-GMP) compliant pharmaceutical manufacturing plant for essential medicines, including HIV and tuberculosis drugs.

Other planned components include a 1,000-bed tertiary hospital, a 500-bed specialist hospital, a 250-bed general hospital, a network of primary healthcare centres, a university focused on health sciences and medicine, a commercial bank, an insurance company and a housing estate to support the healthcare ecosystem.

Shipi described the initiative as a long-term national development project rather than a conventional business investment.

“This is more than a business. It is a national assignment. The $52.1 billion vision of La_Shipson Pharmaceutical Ltd is to build a self-sustaining ecosystem that will create jobs, improve health outcomes, strengthen our economy and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported pharmaceuticals.

“Strategic meetings are actively underway with local and international partners, development finance institutions and regulatory bodies to ensure the successful and timely actualisation of this vision,” he said.

The company said it is collaborating with Theoremsl to develop master plans and bankable feasibility studies for the nine project components, with the documents being structured to meet international funding requirements and attract strategic investors.

It added that further announcements would be made as discussions with partners progress and financial milestones are achieved.

If realised, the project would rank among the largest private healthcare and pharmaceutical investments proposed in Nigeria, with the company projecting significant job creation, improved healthcare access and enhanced domestic production of essential medicines.

However, the investment remains at the planning and partnership stage, with strategic engagements, feasibility studies and financing processes still underway, according to the company.
