Middle East Crisis: No Distress Calls Yet from Nigerians in Iran – NiDCOM
As the crisis in the Middle East intensifies, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has said its attention has been drawn to a statement allegedly credited to the Commission’s Spokesman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, claiming that there are no distress calls from Nigerians stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing crisis in the region.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Director of Media and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Commission clarified that no such statement was made.
On the contrary, the Commission disclosed that it has received enquiries from a few Nigerians in Qatar, the UAE, and Iran regarding possible evacuation plans should the situation deteriorate.
NiDCOM explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is collaborating with relevant agencies to determine appropriate measures, while urging Nigerians in affected countries to adhere strictly to travel advisories issued by the Ministry and make use of the emergency contact numbers provided.
The Commission assured that Nigerians residing in the affected countries should remain calm, as the Federal Government is closely monitoring developments and will take necessary steps to safeguard the lives of its citizens.
