The Nigerian Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), in collaboration with Naija Autosports, hosted Tinubu’s Turbo Fest 2026, a landmark event that highlighted speed, innovation, and the economic prospects of Nigeria’s automotive sector.
The event took place at Eagle Square, Abuja, on March 29, 2026, drawing participation from top government officials and key industry stakeholders.Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, underscored its importance, describing it as a celebration of visionary leadership and a reflection of a New Nigeria anchored on innovation, technical excellence, and youth empowerment. He noted that local production of sports vehicles would generate employment and strengthen the automotive value chain.
Osanipin emphasized the need for a structured approach to developing both the automotive and motorsport industries, referencing global examples where motorsport has contributed to technological innovations such as Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) and lightweight alloys. He described Nigeria’s growing autosport community as a “hidden reservoir of technical ingenuity” that requires proper formalization, regulation, and investment.
The festival attracted notable dignitaries, including Barr. Lopsak Longhas, who represented the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Dr. Aminu Nasir, Chairman of the National Population Commission. Through this collaboration, NADDC and Naija Autosports aim to transform informal talent into a professional, safety-conscious, and economically sustainable sector.
Highlighting safety concerns, the DG stated that organized motorsport provides a controlled environment that encourages best practices and discourages unsafe activities such as illegal street racing. He added that a well-structured motorsport ecosystem would help develop a pipeline of skilled professionals, including engineers, technicians, and safety experts.
Tinubu’s Turbo Fest 2026 showcased the vast economic potential of motorsport, including job creation, increased investment and sponsorship, tourism growth, and support for Nigeria’s broader industrialization agenda. The event aligned symbolically with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a modern, innovative, and globally competitive nation.
Stakeholders observed that the energy, discipline, and precision displayed during the event mirror the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development. Beyond celebrating speed, the festival signaled Nigeria’s readiness to embrace innovation, safety, and economic growth through motorsport.
Reaffirming the significance of the partnership, the NADDC DG described the collaboration with Naija Autosports as a strategic move to professionalize the industry and unlock its economic potential. He expressed optimism that the event would serve as a turning point for motorsport development in Nigeria.
The festival featured thrilling racing performances by some of Nigeria’s top drivers, alongside exhibitions, interactive showcases, and networking opportunities for industry players.
Tinubu’s Turbo Fest 2026 was also held in celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s birthday, recognizing his role in advancing Nigeria’s development agenda. The event reflected his vision of a prosperous and innovative nation.
As interest in motorsport continues to grow across the country, stakeholders remain optimistic about its contribution to economic development. With the backing of NADDC, the sector is set to emerge as a significant force in the global automotive industry.
