Petrol Hike Bites Hard as MRS Outlets Await Fresh Supply

Dangote Refinery’s partner, MRS filling stations, have remained shut for at least seven days following the recent increase in petrol prices.
Checks by DAILY POST revealed that several MRS filling stations in Abuja and surrounding areas have not received Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supplies since July 17, 2026.

A manager at one of the MRS filling stations, who requested anonymity, confirmed the development on Friday, saying the station had been without fuel since last Thursday. He, however, expressed optimism that supplies would resume following the restart of Dangote Refinery’s petrol sales in naira.
It will be recalled that Dangote Refinery suspended petrol gantry sales in naira on July 15, 2026, before resuming sales on Thursday at a new price of N1,215 per litre, up from N1,175 per litre.
The refinery’s decision to resume the sale of refined petroleum products in naira has eased uncertainty in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
Meanwhile, depot owners and fuel marketers have increased petrol prices at least twice within the past seven days. Retail prices currently range between N1,300 and N1,340 per litre in parts of Abuja.
