Borno Governor Zulum Sacks All Commissioners, Dissolves State Executive Council
By Iyojo Ameh
Governor Babagana Zulum has dissolved the Borno State Executive Council, ordering the immediate removal of all commissioners from office.
According to a statement by Bukar Tijani, Secretary to the State Government, the commissioners are required to hand over their duties to permanent secretaries by Friday, April 3, 2026.
“The decision allows any member of the council who wishes to contest in the forthcoming general elections to do so without conflict of interest,” the statement said.
Governor Zulum also thanked the outgoing commissioners for their dedication and service to the people of Borno State.
The directive follows the provisions of the amended Electoral Act, under which political appointees seeking elective positions must resign ahead of elections.
Several governors across Nigeria have taken similar steps in recent weeks.
