Shettima embodies loyalty, resilience and refined leadership — Lawyer
By Hamza N. Dantani
ABUJA — A constitutional lawyer and rights activist, Hamza N. Dantani, has described Vice President Kashim Shettima as a symbol of loyalty, resilience and refined leadership within Nigeria’s evolving democratic space.
Dantani, in a statement, said his admiration for the Vice President is “not driven by fleeting political sentiment, but by a sustained observation of his character, conduct and unwavering commitment to service.”
According to him, Shettima’s professional journey began in the banking sector, where he distinguished himself through diligence, integrity and compassion, earning respect among colleagues for his disposition towards mentorship and support.
He noted that the Vice President’s foray into public service started during the administration of former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, where he served as Commissioner before rising to the position of governor.
Dantani recalled that Shettima assumed leadership of Borno State at the peak of insurgency linked to Boko Haram, describing the period as one of the most challenging in the state’s history.
He said: “His tenure was not just about governance; it was about rebuilding lives, institutions and the spirit of a people under siege.”
The lawyer further observed that Shettima governed with “courage, composure and strategic foresight,” adding that his administration recorded notable strides in stabilisation and recovery efforts.
On his political standing, Dantani described the Vice President as a loyal and principled figure within the All Progressives Congress, noting his influence in strengthening party cohesion, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Following his tenure as governor, Shettima represented Borno State in the Senate before emerging as Vice President alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dantani said Shettima is widely perceived as a calm and inclusive leader, who avoids political vendettas and promotes unity in governance.
He added that the Vice President’s oratory skills and intellectual depth continue to distinguish him in public discourse, describing his speeches as “clear, reflective and philosophically engaging.”
The lawyer also maintained that Shettima’s public record remains “largely untainted by allegations of human rights violations or abuse of power,” a factor he said reinforces his credibility.
He concluded that the Vice President embodies key leadership qualities, including “intellectual capacity, emotional intelligence, humility and a genuine commitment to the people,” adding that his role in the current administration provides “depth, balance and strategic strength.”
“He represents not just what Nigeria is, but what it can become — a nation guided by vision, compassion and enduring integrity,” Dantani stated.
