Rainstorm Wrecks Newly Commissioned Kugbo Bus Terminal, Causes Gridlock in Abuja
There was heavy traffic gridlock along the Abacha Barracks–Nyanya–Keffi Expressway in Abuja on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, following the destruction of the multi-billion naira Kugbo Bus Terminal constructed under the supervision of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The bus terminal, which was inaugurated in June 2025, had been described by the Minister at its commissioning as a “state-of-the-art” facility.
However, a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds on Tuesday caused significant damage to the terminal, affecting its roof and other parts of the structure. The facility had yet to be put into use before the incident occurred.
Debris from the разрушed structure was scattered across the busy Abacha Barracks–Nyanya–Keffi trunk ‘A’ road, worsening the already chaotic traffic situation for commuters heading home after the day’s work and other activities.
Some vehicles trapped in the traffic were also damaged by the falling debris from the terminal.
