The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has calmed public concerns over reports alleging that more than 400 Boko Haram members had infiltrated the state.

The command also refuted claims that it arrested 488 suspected Boko Haram members, stressing that such reports are false.
It warned that anyone found spreading fake news aimed at creating fear or unrest would face prosecution.
In a statement issued on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said the command is aware of a viral video circulating on social media claiming that “488 Boko Haram members were arrested in Abia State.”
The Nation gathered that rumours of suspected Boko Haram elements entering the state had heightened tension among residents, especially amid recent kidnapping incidents attributed to insurgents.
However, the police clarified: “This claim is false, misleading, and intended to incite fear and unrest. The video being circulated is an old broadcast from over 11 years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Abia State.”
The command reaffirmed its commitment as the lead internal security agency to protect lives and property, assuring residents that the state remains peaceful. Citizens were encouraged to continue their lawful activities without fear.
It further urged the public to support crime prevention efforts by avoiding the spread of unverified information and relying only on credible sources for news updates.
CP Danladi Isa also cautioned against the spread of false information capable of causing panic or civil unrest, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in line with Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime (Prohibition/Prevention) Act.
