As part of efforts to modernise the livestock sector, the Federal Government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Dairy Technical Skills Development Centre in Abuja.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, stated that the centre is aimed at addressing the shortage of practical skills required for modern dairy farming and ranch management.

He noted that Nigeria currently lacks institutions that provide hands-on training in key areas such as breeding, fodder production, and animal health.
Stakeholders present at the event emphasised that the centre will generate employment opportunities, enhance rural livelihoods, and strengthen the country’s dairy value chain.
The programme is structured to equip Nigerians with the skills to manage livestock as a profitable business while boosting investor confidence. The first batch of trainees is expected to graduate within a year.
The initiative is also in line with the Federal Government’s livestock transformation agenda, which seeks to increase productivity and reduce conflicts within the sector.
