Livestock Value Chain: Minister Targets Jobs for Women, Youths
The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, says opportunities in Nigeria’s livestock value chain can create sustainable employment for youths and women while repositioning the sector as a major driver of economic growth and social mobility.
Maiha stated this during a meeting with the Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Women and Youth Engagement and Impact in Abuja.
The Minister said the Federal Government’s approach was to move beyond isolated interventions and develop interconnected value chains where producers, processors, service providers, transporters and off-takers operate as part of a coordinated system.
In her opening speech, the Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Women and Youth Engagement and Impact, Hajia Hauwa Lima, said her visit was aimed at having strategic engagement with the Ministry and other stakeholders in the livestock value chain to provide entrepreneurial support for about 500 Nigerian youths and women.
Hajiya Hauwa further informed the Minister that Vice President Kashim Shettima had directed stronger engagement with relevant stakeholders at the upcoming Arewa Agric and Innovative Summit (AAIS) 2026. The summit will bring together Nigerian youths and women entrepreneurs, as well as policymakers, to ensure sustainable growth in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
