The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 44 people following coordinated attacks by bandits on several communities in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.

The affected villages—Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa, and Dabe—were reportedly struck at the same time in a series of violent assaults that left many residents displaced and communities devastated.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, disclosed that security forces have since initiated a large-scale clearance operation across the affected areas to forestall further attacks and restore normalcy.
He noted that the operation, carried out in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, is focused on flushing out criminal elements from forests, farmlands, border routes, and remote settlements.
According to the command, additional tactical units have been deployed to the troubled communities, helping to stabilize the situation as intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations continue.
The police also reported the recovery of two AK-47 rifles during ongoing operations along the Illo–Kamba axis, describing it as an early success in the crackdown against armed groups.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, called on residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that could support ongoing security efforts.
He further urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to work closely with security agencies to curb the violence and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
