Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Minister of Power
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination has been forwarded to the National Assembly in accordance with constitutional requirements.
Tegbe’s appointment follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
A native of Oyo State, Tegbe is a fiscal and economic reform specialist with over three decades of experience in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives on fiscal policy, governance, and institutional reforms.
He currently holds the position of Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates development partnerships between Nigeria and China, including engagements tied to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The Presidency highlighted Tegbe’s experience in the power sector, particularly his involvement in regulatory and institutional reforms with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
According to the statement, his nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid performance, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President expressed optimism that Tegbe, if confirmed, will deploy his extensive expertise to drive meaningful improvements in electricity supply and sector governance.
