Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Takes Over as Foreign Affairs Minister, Vows to Advance Nigeria’s 4D Diplomacy Agenda

Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has officially assumed office with a pledge to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and drive the Federal Government’s 4D Foreign Policy agenda.

The minister resumed duties on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abuja following her elevation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She was received by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed alongside directors and heads of agencies under the ministry, including the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Technical Aid Corps, and the Foreign Service Academy.

Welcoming the minister, Ambassador Ahmed described her appointment as a reflection of her experience, professionalism, and previous contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives during her tenure as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

He expressed optimism that her leadership would further strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic influence, international partnerships, and foreign policy direction.

Officials of agencies under the ministry also pledged cooperation and support toward achieving the ministry’s strategic objectives.

In her remarks, Odumegwu-Ojukwu thanked the ministry’s leadership and staff for the reception and promised to build on the achievements already recorded under the current administration.

She reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to its 4D Foreign Policy framework anchored on Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography, while stressing the importance of citizen-focused diplomacy and strategic autonomy.

According to her, professionalism, innovation, institutional efficiency, and stronger collaboration remain critical to advancing Nigeria’s interests at regional, continental, and global levels.

The minister also assured workers and affiliated agencies of her commitment to staff welfare, improved service delivery, and stronger institutional coordination aimed at protecting Nigerians and promoting national interests abroad.
