NDC Moves To Reinforce Party Supremacy, Financial Accountability
The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has announced a series of far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening party discipline, institutional stability, and financial transparency.
The resolutions were adopted at the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
A statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, reaffirms the party’s commitment to building a strong institution driven by collective leadership rather than individual interests.
The statement stresses that governments elected on its platform must consult party structures on key policies, programmes, and appointments, except for personal staff positions, insisting that the party remains supreme at all times.
It also directs that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operate under its supervision and must not function independently of established party structures.
According to the statement, as part of efforts to strengthen internal discipline, the NEC approved the establishment of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates.
The statement says a committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been mandated to develop the framework to address internal grievances and promote unity,
It further explains that the party inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with engaging and reconciling aggrieved members across the country.
It states that the party is being built as a lasting political institution and not a personality-driven platform or a temporary political vehicle.
The statement urges members, aspirants, and candidates to place loyalty to the party and national interest above personal ambitions.
According to the statement, on financial management, the NEC resolved to enforce strict accountability in the use of party resources, warning that all funds must be deployed solely for official party activities.
It also directs candidates seeking elective offices to fully disclose all campaign funds and contributions received at every level.
According to the resolution, campaign finances must be processed through designated party accounts, including presidential and governorship campaign accounts where applicable.
It adds that the measures are aimed at entrenching transparency, strengthening internal democracy, and ensuring the party’s long-term growth and sustainability.
According to the statement, the resolutions take immediate effect.
