BREAKING: NRC Confirms Three Deaths in Warri–Itakpe Train Derailment, Investigation Underway

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that three people lost their lives following the derailment of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service in Agbor on Monday.


The corporation also disclosed that several coaches left the rail track during the incident.

In a statement issued by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC said emergency response teams and other relevant authorities had been deployed to the scene to manage the situation and provide assistance to passengers.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirms that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service occurred today. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance,” the statement said.
Opeifa explained that the incident involved four coaches departing from the track, an occurrence referred to in railway operations as a derailment.
According to him, the corporation is closely monitoring developments and will provide additional information as investigations and response efforts continue.
The NRC appealed to members of the public to remain calm and rely only on official sources for verified updates concerning the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the derailment had not been disclosed.
The corporation said a more detailed statement would be released as emergency operations continue at the scene.
