The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring strategic collaboration in meteorological training, research and capacity development to strengthen the use of weather and climate intelligence in military operations.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, disclosed this when he received the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor B.J. Ajibuah, on a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Discussions during the visit centred on integrating meteorological knowledge and weather and climate services into military training and operational planning to support informed decision making.

The two institutions also explored opportunities for specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to enhance the technical capacity of their personnel.

As part of efforts to formalise the proposed partnership, both institutions considered establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for sustained cooperation and identify priority areas of engagement.
