20 Years Strong: FG Deepens Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Drive

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda following two decades of strategic investments in shared digital infrastructure.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Galaxy Backbone, the Managing Director, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the organisation’s establishment twenty years ago has resulted in one of Nigeria’s most strategic digital assets. He noted that the agency has strengthened government operations, enhanced service delivery, and expanded access to digital services across the country.
According to him, Galaxy Backbone was created to build a connected government, eliminate duplication in technology investments, improve operational efficiency, and provide a digital foundation capable of supporting Nigeria’s long-term development goals.
Professor Adeyanju stated that the agency’s fibre-optic network now covers nearly 30 states, linking government institutions and facilitating digital governance nationwide.
Addressing customer engagement and service delivery, the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mohammed Sani Ibrahim, described customers as key partners in the agency’s 20-year journey. He emphasized that customer satisfaction remains a core value of the organisation.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services, Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe, highlighted that ongoing investments in technology, innovation, and cybersecurity are positioning the organisation to meet future demands while supporting the Federal Government’s vision of building a secure, inclusive, and globally competitive digital economy.
