Anambra NDC Youths Defend Rep. Uzokwe, Dismiss Critic’s Allegations Ahead of 2027 Poll
By Iyojo Ameh
The Anambra State Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly defended the member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Hon.
Peter Uzokwe, against what it described as a sustained campaign of misinformation and character attacks by a party member, Fidelis Lotanna Ikebunwa. In a statement issued on Friday, the youth group accused Ikebunwa of making what it called “false and fabricated claims” against the federal lawmaker following the party’s primary election ahead of the 2027 National Assembly polls.

The group alleged that Ikebunwa had adopted different identities and affiliations in various public statements while presenting himself as a spokesperson for different youth groups within the constituency.
According to the NDC youths, no individual has the authority to speak on behalf of all young members of the party in Anambra State.
The group maintained that Uzokwe enjoys widespread support among party members and constituents due to what it described as his legislative achievements, accessibility and grassroots engagement.
Defending the outcome of the party’s primary election, the youths insisted that Uzokwe emerged as the duly elected candidate of the party through a transparent process.
They dismissed claims challenging the outcome of the primary, describing them as attempts by dissatisfied aspirants to discredit the process.
The youth leaders further alleged that Ikebunwa performed poorly during the primary election and should channel any grievances through established party mechanisms rather than engaging in public attacks against the party’s candidate.
The statement also referenced an alleged confrontation between Ikebunwa and Uzokwe at Anaedo Hall in Nnewi on May 29, 2026, claiming that the incident was provoked by the former. However, the allegations were not independently verified.
The group urged members of the public to disregard what it described as misleading narratives aimed at tarnishing the image of the lawmaker.
According to the youths, Uzokwe remains focused on providing effective representation and preparing for the 2027 general elections.
They expressed confidence that the lawmaker would retain the support of party members and voters across the constituency.
The statement was signed by Patrick Ejiofor, Chukwuka Okonkwo, Kenenna Oradubanya, Chinasa Oragu, Chizoba Elodimuo, Nnamdi Maduabum and Azuka Ugwumba on behalf of the leadership of the Anambra NDC Youth Wing.
Neither Ikebunwa nor his associates had responded to the allegations contained in the statement as of the time of filing this report.
