New FRSC-NITT Pact Boosts Road Safety Innovation

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing training, capacity development, research and innovation.

The agreement is expected to enhance professional standards, strengthen institutional capacity and position Nigeria’s transport sector to compete globally.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, described the occasion as a landmark achievement in the history of Nigeria’s road transport sector. He said the partnership between the two leading institutions reflects a strong commitment to building a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system.
He noted that the collaboration would expand specialised training, research, technology development, driver training, knowledge sharing and human capital development.
According to the Corps Marshal, the existing relationship between FRSC and NITT has already delivered impressive results, while the formal signing of the MoU marks the beginning of a new era of innovation and institutional excellence.
Mallam Mohammed added that the partnership would boost research capacity, modernise driver training centres, strengthen ICT-driven learning and produce globally competitive transport professionals capable of addressing emerging mobility and road safety challenges.
He stressed that the MoU goes beyond a ceremonial agreement, describing it as a practical framework for immediate implementation that will accelerate reforms across Nigeria’s transport sector.
In his remarks, the Director General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, praised the FRSC for its visionary leadership and unwavering commitment throughout the negotiation process. He said the Corps’ dedication played a vital role in the successful completion of the agreement.
Dr. Farah explained that the core objective of the MoU is to align transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria with global best practices, thereby producing world-class manpower to drive sustainable national development.
The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders in the transport sector.
