Nigerian international footballer Francisca Ordega has inaugurated two borehole water projects in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, bringing much-needed relief to residents of communities that have faced persistent challenges in accessing clean water.

The boreholes, commissioned on July 6, are located at Tse Mue Ato Mbaaye, Ordega’s hometown, and the neighbouring Ikpenger community, both in Mbaavarakaa Council Ward of Mbatiav, Gboko LGA.
Speaking during the inauguration, Ordega described water as an essential necessity of life and expressed confidence that the projects would improve access to safe drinking water, encourage better hygiene, and enhance the overall wellbeing of the people.
The commissioning ceremony attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, elders, youths and other well-wishers, who joined the Super Falcons star in officially unveiling the projects.
Residents of both communities expressed delight over the intervention, saying the boreholes would help ease the recurring water shortages they experience, particularly during the dry season.
On behalf of the traditional council and the people, Zaki Ankele and Elder Tyoanhyev Adzenda praised Ordega for what they described as a meaningful and impactful contribution to the development of the communities. They thanked her for her commitment to improving the lives of her people and prayed for greater success in both her football career and humanitarian activities.
Also speaking, Mr. Joseph Ordega Ankele, father of the football star, said he was proud to witness his daughter’s determination to give back to society.
According to him, supporting communities had always been a lifelong dream, and seeing his daughter turn that vision into reality was deeply gratifying.
“It is a dream come true. It has always been a desire to give back to society. I pray God to grant her more strength, wisdom and zeal to do more for the people,” he said.
He further prayed for God to bless her with greater strength, wisdom and resources to continue impacting lives.
Francisca Ordega, a native of Gboko, currently plays as a forward for Saudi Women’s Premier League club Al-Ittihad.
Media Coordinator of the Francisca Ordega Foundation (FOF), Vancouver Ter Alam, disclosed that the borehole projects were fully funded by the footballer as part of her commitment to addressing the water needs of underserved communities across Benue State.
