INEC Unveils Rewards, Tightens Focus on Credible Osun Poll

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has announced plans to introduce cash rewards and foreign travel incentives for staff who distinguish themselves during election duties.
Professor Amupitan made the announcement during a working visit to the INEC headquarters in Osogbo, explaining that the initiative is aimed at boosting staff morale ahead of the forthcoming election.
He said the Commission was under pressure to conduct a credible election in Osun State, describing the poll as crucial to INEC’s credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The INEC Chairman, however, expressed concern over recent attacks on the Commission’s facilities, citing an incident last week in which BVAS machines were hijacked and election personnel were assaulted.
According to him, the Commission is working closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and the National Peace Committee to ensure a peaceful electoral process. He added that the security situation in Osun has improved, with the threat level dropping from “very high” in June to “medium.”
Also speaking, the National Commissioner in charge of the South West, Professor Kunle Ajayii, said the Commission is fully prepared for the 2026 election, stressing that INEC has a dedicated workforce ready to deliver a successful poll.
