NNPC: Crude, Gas Production Up Under Ojulari’s Leadership

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) says it continues to record steady growth in national crude oil and gas production, reaffirming its transformation into a fully commercial and globally competitive energy company.

Nnpc limited and made available to journalists in Abuja while responding to recent media commentary attributed to the Oil and Gas Professionals Forum (OGPF), which questioned the performance of its leadership under the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, particularly in relation to the recently concluded oil licensing round conducted by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
NNPC Limited said it welcomes scrutiny of its operations and performance in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability. However, it said there was a need to clarify some of the claims made in the commentary.
On the licensing round, the company explained that under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, the conduct of oil licensing rounds and allocation of oil blocks fall within the statutory mandate of the NUPRC.
According to NNPC Limited, it has operated strictly as a commercial entity since its incorporation and does not possess regulatory or allocative authority.
On crude oil production, the company said publicly available data showed a clear and sustained improvement in output under the current leadership.
It stated that average crude oil production stood at 1.60 million barrels per day (mbpd), inclusive of condensate, as of April 2025. According to the company, production increased during the second half of 2025 and stabilised at 1.67 mbpd, inclusive of condensate, by April 2026.
NNPC Limited said the increase represents approximately 80,000 barrels per day, or six per cent growth. It added that the figures are contained in its publicly available Monthly Performance Report.
The company also reported growth in gas production, saying output increased from an average of 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in April 2025 to 7,729 mmscfd by April 2026, representing five per cent growth.
It said the increase in gas production was an indication of expanding output in support of Nigeria’s domestic energy security and export commitments.
NNPC Limited reiterated its commitment to transparency and said it would continue to engage openly on issues relating to its operations and performance.
The company, however, said it reserves the right to take necessary steps to protect its reputation and that of its leadership against the publication of false or unsubstantiated claims.
It urged industry commentators, analysts and professional associations to verify information through appropriate regulatory and corporate channels before publication, noting that this would help ensure public commentary remains factual, balanced and constructive to informed discussions about Nigeria’s energy sector.
