The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is intensifying its nationwide campaign to promote workplace safety, with stakeholder engagements currently ongoing in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna.

The programme, tagged “Programme on Safety Regulations, Policies and Standards,” is being organised by the Fund’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department to sensitise employers on the importance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).

According to a statement by NSITF, the initiative is aimed at building participants’ capacity to develop and implement effective OSH policies, promote stakeholder collaboration, introduce employers to emerging safety technologies, and strengthen practical skills in risk prevention.
The ongoing three-day engagements are designed to deepen stakeholders’ understanding of OSH frameworks, challenges and opportunities in Nigeria, while encouraging the integration of workplace safety into national development and organisational strategies.
NSITF said the increasing incidence of workplace accidents and compensation claims in some sectors highlights the need to strengthen employers’ safety leadership, risk management and incident investigation capabilities.
The Fund also announced plans to extend the stakeholder outreach to other parts of the country.
