The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has advised Christians and Muslims not to allow politicians to use religion to divide them for selfish interests.

CAN President, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, made the appeal in his message commemorating Eid-el-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
He also urged politicians not to exploit religion or ethnicity for political advantage.
According to Okoh, elections will come and go, but the bonds that unite Nigerians must remain strong.
He said the birth of Prophet Muhammad offers Muslims an opportunity to reflect on a life associated with mercy, justice, compassion for the poor and vulnerable, honesty and peaceful coexistence.
The CAN President therefore called on the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to move beyond promises and take visible action, stressing that Nigerians need greater security, economic relief and leadership that prioritises their welfare.
