SDP Women Rally Nationwide, Push Stronger Political Participation

The National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ambassador Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, has called on women leaders across the country to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.

Abdullahi made the call in Abuja during a strategic meeting between the party’s national women leadership and state women leaders.
She urged women to organise themselves and establish strong, functional structures across states, wards and communities to ensure that their voices and contributions are adequately represented within the party and the country’s political space.
According to her, political success cannot be achieved through wishful thinking, but requires organisation, sacrifice, strategy, commitment and effective grassroots engagement.
The National Speaker said the SDP Women Parliament was determined to strengthen its structures and mobilise more women to participate actively in the party’s activities.
“This meeting gives us an opportunity to assess where we are, identify our weaknesses, strengthen our structures and develop practical strategies for taking the SDP message to every ward, community and household,” she said.
Abdullahi urged state women leaders to regard themselves as strategic pillars of the party, stressing the importance of focus, discipline, teamwork and commitment to the collective vision of the SDP.
She also appealed to the women to set aside their differences and work together, noting that unity among women would strengthen party structures and amplify their voices.
The National Speaker commended the state women leaders for their sacrifices, particularly those who travelled long distances at their own expense to attend the meeting.
She urged them to return to their respective states with renewed determination and ensure that the resolutions reached at the meeting were translated into measurable results.
“Our strength is in our unity, our power is in our organisation, and our weapon is our determination. We must organise, mobilise and deliver results,” she said.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Chairman of the SDP, Professor Sadiq Gombe, who was represented by the South-South Deputy National Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, assured women of greater inclusion in the affairs of the party.
He said the party was undergoing reforms and reorganisation aimed at strengthening its structures and preparing for future political activities.
Professor Gombe said the SDP remained committed to giving women their rightful place in political appointments, party activities and elections.
He added that the party’s forthcoming manifesto would outline its policies across various sectors, including provisions designed to promote greater participation and inclusion of women.
The National Chairman described the SDP as an ideological party committed to the welfare of Nigerians and the principles contained in Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution.
He urged the women leaders to sustain their grassroots mobilisation efforts and prepare women across the country for active participation in the party’s future campaigns and activities.
Professor Gombe also commended the National Woman Leader and other women leaders for their commitment and sacrifices towards mobilising women for the growth of the SDP.
