Akpabio Assures: Campaigns and Legislation Will Run Side by Side

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that the 2027 electioneering will not prevent members of the National Assembly from performing their legislative responsibilities.
Akpabio spoke while addressing newsmen at the Presidential Wing of the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, following his recent meeting with APC critical stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District. At the meeting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno received unanimous endorsements to seek re-election in their respective offices in 2027.
According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, and made available to newsmen, Akpabio said electioneering and legislative duties were separate activities and that one should not interfere with the other.
He said lawmakers were elected to serve for four years and would continue working throughout their tenure, noting that campaign activities could be scheduled around legislative duties.
“We are elected for four years and we are going to work for four years. Anybody that is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act. We are politicians and campaigns would start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings.
“It is not a problem at all. It is not everybody that will go for campaign at the same time because we belong to different political parties. Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament,” he stressed.
