Cross River Commissioner For Power, Eka Williams, Dies In Abuja
The Cross River State Commissioner for Power, Dr Eka Williams, has reportedly died in Abuja after reportedly collapsing and being rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.
Family sources confirmed his death on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to reports by Hit FM Calabar. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially disclosed.
Williams, who hailed from Akparabong in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have remained active in recent days. A close friend said the commissioner was among those present during Governor Bassey Otu’s recent visit to Ikom and was later invited to the governor’s residence for an assessment meeting.
His sudden death has thrown his family, friends and members of his community into mourning. His brother, Nkang Williams, described the development as difficult to accept, saying the family was still struggling to come to terms with his sudden passing.
“I am still struggling to accept that my brother, who was recently with my family, has suddenly become a memory,” Nkang said.
He added that despite the family’s grief, they would continue to celebrate the life of the late commissioner, whom he described as a man who touched lives, shared knowledge and built lasting relationships.
Williams’ death makes him the second commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Otu. The state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, died in 2025.
