FRESH AND TESTY BEANS IN SEASON

In Katsina and some neighbouring states in North-Western Nigeria, Fresh and Newly harvested beans is in season.

The Fresh tasty beans is popularly branded locally as ‘Dan-arba’in meaning that it usually takes not more than forty days to ripe from the day it was planted

Being the cheapest crop currently, this fresh and tasty beans is not so big as the (popular) normal beans seen all over the country, but is more available at the state capital Katsina and other towns and villages found commonly on the Nigeria-Niger Border.

Popular markets where this brand of beans is readily available in large quantity are the Mai’adua, Mashi, Jibia, Dankama, Zangon-Daura markets while transportation is available for easy delivery.

The Dan-arba’in fresh beans is more preparable for directe meals rather than for making Akara.

Other brand whose ripping period is close by are the kwankwasiyya beans, Mai-fitila and Mai-baza beans which are all improved seeds from the Agricultural research Institutes.

The normal and popular local one is bigger by mare looks, but takes longer time to mature and is more available at the end of the farming season and is more preparable for Akara/kosai and Alale Delicacies

Farmers from different parts of Katsina state Interviewed are highly optimistic of a bumper harvest this year.
