Osanipin Pushes Local Vehicle Patronage to Boost Nigeria’s Automotive Industry
The Federal Government has reiterated its directive to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritise the purchase of Made-in-Nigeria vehicles in line with the Nigeria First Policy.
The policy is aimed at promoting local production, creating jobs and strengthening Nigeria’s automotive industry.
The directive was disclosed at a media briefing in Abuja organised by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
The Director-General of the NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, said the policy would provide local automotive manufacturers with opportunities to grow, expand their operations and contribute more significantly to the national economy.
Osanipin, who highlighted measures being put in place by the NADDC to promote the patronage of Made-in-Nigeria vehicles, reiterated the Council’s determination to develop the nation’s automotive industry.
While soliciting the support of stakeholders in repositioning the sector, Osanipin stressed the need for greater public-private sector collaboration to drive the industry’s growth

In his remarks, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, said automotive companies seeking government patronage must meet established standards and comply with relevant policy guidelines.
He explained that the companies would also be required to undergo due diligence checks to ensure compliance with procurement regulations.
Adedokun added that strict adherence to the guidelines would promote transparency, ensure value for money and support the development of a competitive and sustainable automotive industry in Nigeria.
According to him, implementing the policy would deepen local content, boost industrial growth and encourage greater patronage of Nigerian-made vehicles by public institutions.
