Adebayo Calls For Holistic Approach To Ebola Screening

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called for a comprehensive approach to the management of suspected Ebola cases in Nigeria.

Adebayo made the call during an interactive session with political editors in Abuja, stressing the need for proper medical checks rather than focusing on a single symptom.

He said health authorities should carry out thorough assessments of suspected cases to establish the actual condition of patients and prevent unnecessary public concern.

According to him, symptoms such as chest pain should not be considered in isolation, as proper medical evaluation requires doctors to examine the patient holistically.

Adebayo said Nigeria had previously managed Ebola successfully and should apply lessons from that experience in dealing with any new public health concern.

He urged the government to provide clear and timely information to Nigerians and ensure that health professionals are properly involved in communicating developments.

The SDP candidate also advised Nigerians to remain vigilant, observe basic health precautions and seek medical attention whenever they experience unusual symptoms.

He said public health concerns should be handled with transparency, professionalism and accurate information to avoid confusion.

Adebayo also identified poverty and insecurity as major challenges facing the country, saying both issues continued to affect the wellbeing of Nigerians.

He urged the media to investigate issues affecting citizens and provide balanced coverage of the different political alternatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

On fuel prices, Adebayo defended his proposal for petrol to sell at about ₦200 per litre, saying Nigeria should prioritise its domestic energy needs.

He argued that Nigerians earning local wages should not be expected to pay international prices for resources produced within the country.

Adebayo said his proposed energy policy would support domestic refining and help reduce the pressure of fuel prices on households and businesses.

The SDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Professor Usman Bugaje, also called for greater attention to Nigeria’s health, food and territorial security, urging journalists to investigate the effects of insecurity on communities.

The National Chairman of the SDP, Professor Sadiq Gombe, urged the media to educate Nigerians on the party’s policy proposals.

Earlier, the campaign’s Chief Media and Communications Adviser, Mark Adebayo, said the interaction was aimed at promoting transparency ahead of the 2027 elections.
