Achida Pledges Stronger Departments, Reliable Data for Sokoto’s Sustainable Development
The Sokoto State Bureau of Statistics and all departments of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Development are to be strengthened to ensure optimum service delivery.
This was disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry, Dr. Bashir Muhammad Achida, while declaring open a three-day capacity-building workshop for newly recruited staff on the basic principles of budgeting, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
The workshop, organised by the Ministry in collaboration with UNICEF, is holding at Sokoto Guest Inn, Sokoto.
Dr. Achida described the Bureau of Statistics as a critical institution in the state’s development process, noting that effective budgeting and planning depend on accurate and reliable data.
According to him, the Ministry cannot function effectively without statistics, as data provides the foundation for identifying development priorities and ensuring the appropriate allocation of public resources.
He assured that every department would receive the necessary attention and support to improve performance, while urging staff to remain committed to their responsibilities.

The Commissioner further stressed the need to properly organise the Ministry’s operations, considering that many of its responsibilities involve both field and office-based activities.
He expressed confidence that strengthening departments, building staff capacity and improving the availability of reliable data would lead to more effective planning and sustainable development in Sokoto State.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Buhari Umar Musheshi, who was represented by the Director of Economic Planning, Sani Abdullahi, said the workshop was designed to equip participants with the foundational tools, frameworks and methodologies needed to excel in their assigned duties.
