In a bid to protect Nigerian consumers from sharp practices, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC has sealed up the premises of a private visa service provider Company for non provision of services on visa processes paid for by consumers.

Sealing up the premises of the Company located in Central Business District of Abuja, the Director, Surveillance and Investigations in FCCPC, Mrs Boladale Adeyinka said aside the complaints by affected consumers, the Company’s staff also assaulted the Commission’s officers and security personnel sent to deliver the summon in respect of the allegations.

Mrs Boladale Adeyinka after sealing up the offices of the Company directed its management staff to appear before FCCPC this Friday.

“This is an enforcement operation against TLS that provides visa support services to Nigerian consumers and on the 25th of March, 2025 based on consumers complains , a letter was served on then to address to address consumers complains that is in the process of amicable resolution at the Commission but it was unfortunate that the staff of TLS rather than receiving the consumer complain, proceeded to assault our officers who were conducting a lawful duty by implementing the provision of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC Act and the staff of this TLS equally on June 17, 2025 not only assaulted the Commission’s officers but also uniform security officers of the Nigeria Police who were lawful security for the operation of the Commission” She stated

In her words”Section 18 sub section 1f, pursuant to that provision, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Mr Tunji Bello directed that the premises of the company be sealed for conducting services that the FCCPC considers Upon reasonable suspicion to be inimical to consumer welfare in Nigeria and further directed the management of the company to report to the Commission on Friday, , 20th of June, 2025 on or before 2pm to give evidence on why they obstructed investigation processes of the Commission and why the Commission should not proceed to invoke the provision of its enactment against such practices”.

The FCCPC Director of Surveillance and Investigations who warned that the Commission would not hesitate to sanction the Company if found wanting cautioned service providers against sharp practices and violation of the Commission’s Act.

“In addition to the enforcement operation that we carried out here today, consumers are still complaining about the services and while we are still here the Commission has received complaints regarding the services that are being rendered by TLS and that underscore the reason why they need to appear before the Commission and explain the operations of TLS in Nigeria” She explained.

Mrs Boladale Adeyinka reiterated the determination of FCCPC towards safeguarding Nigerian consumers from extortion and illegal activities of service providers in the country.
