Alia’s 2027 re-election is assured, says Ohimini LG Chairman,

The Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. Gabriel Adole, has expressed confidence that Governor Hyacinth Alia will secure re-election in 2027, saying the governor’s achievements have placed him ahead of his potential challengers.

Adole said the administration had recorded significant progress in local government administration, infrastructure development and security, arguing that the governor’s performance would speak for him at the polls.
The council chairman made the remarks when he received members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Benue State Council, led by its Chairman, Bemdoo Ugber. He particularly praised Alia for improving the working conditions of local government officials, noting that the administration had provided vehicles for council chairmen, secretaries, vice-chairmen and other local government leaders.
According to him, the situation was different when he served as a councillor about 22 years ago, when councillors had limited support and lacked some of the benefits currently available to local government officials.
“Currently, Governor Hyacinth Alia has no equal. When I was a councillor about 22 years ago, there was nothing like allowances, vehicles or other support for councillors.
“Today, Alia has approved vehicles for leaders, secretaries and vice-chairmen,” he said.
The council boss also commended the governor for road construction projects across the state, particularly in areas that, according to him, had not witnessed such infrastructure development under previous administrations.
Adole said the scale of the governor’s achievements had made his return to the Government House in 2027 almost certain, adding that the people were already looking beyond his second term.
“We are not even talking about his return in 2027. We are thinking of what other things God has in stock for him. Because he is going back in 2027 with that result,” he said.
On security, the chairman said Ohimini had witnessed a significant improvement following the adoption of dialogue and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
He explained that the council had engaged with herders to regulate their movement during the farming season, allowing farmers to access their farms without fear while maintaining peace in the area.
Adole said the strategy, coupled with the intervention of security agencies, had helped reduce incidents of kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the local government.
He recalled that when some residents were recently kidnapped, the state government responded by deploying security personnel, who mounted pressure on the kidnappers and helped the victims escape.
The chairman said the development had strengthened public confidence in the government’s security measures, stressing that Ohimini, which he described as previously one of the areas badly affected by kidnapping, was now enjoying relative peace.
