The member representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State in the House of Representatives has said rumours surrounding an alleged anointed successor ahead of the 2027 primaries will not distract her from delivering on her legislative responsibilities.
Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji, who was sworn into office in October 2025, described her first seven months in the National Assembly as a period of intensive learning. She disclosed that within the period, she has sponsored four bills and moved three motions of national importance aimed at improving the welfare of her constituents.
She stated that she has enjoyed strong support within both the Southwest and Ogun State caucuses in the House and noted that she remains the only female lawmaker from Ogun State in the National Assembly. She also retained the legislative aides of her late predecessor, saying their experience helped her adapt quickly to parliamentary procedures.
Speaking on the issue of succession within the APC, Ayoola-Elegbeji maintained that the party’s consensus arrangement has not been fully observed because all aspirants are expected to be consulted before any candidate is adopted. While recognising Governor Dapo Abiodun as the party leader in the state, she stressed that the race remains open and confirmed that she has obtained and submitted her nomination form for the APC primaries.
According to her, traditional rulers, community associations and labour groups have encouraged her to seek another term, adding that she is consulting widely with party elders at both state and national levels in pursuit of their support.
The lawmaker argued that returning to the House would help the constituency regain ranking privileges lost following the death of her predecessor, whose position as Deputy Chief Whip became vacant. She explained that electing a new representative would mean starting afresh, a development she said would put Remo North at a disadvantage.
Despite existing challenges affecting project execution, Ayoola-Elegbeji pointed to several ongoing interventions in the constituency, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Ikenne, road construction projects in Awolowo and Sagamu, as well as empowerment programmes scheduled to commence within the next two weeks.
She further revealed that she personally financed the grading of roads in Ward 14, Sagamu, to tackle erosion problems pending contractor mobilisation. She also said she funded ecological studies that resulted in three projects being included under the Ecological Fund.
The lawmaker added that she has continued to support constituents through food palliative distribution during Easter and Ramadan and organised holiday coaching classes for about 1,000 students, initiatives she said have strengthened public confidence in her leadership.
Describing herself as a “proven and trusted” representative, Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji appealed to party leaders and stakeholders to allow her continue in office, insisting that she has shown the capacity to sustain the legacy of her late predecessor and provide quality representation for the constituency.
